Winter Dweller’s Celebration with Genot Picor: a michigan storyteller and folklorist
Join us sunday, jan. 12, 1 to 2:30 p.m.
During the winter months, the French voyageurs were known as “hivernauts,” or
“winter dwellers.” Unable to paddle their canoes in the frozen waterways, they
stayed in camps and found ways to occupy their time. Traveling over land by
foot, they gathered for a winter rendezvous with other voyageur brigades and
First Nations friends and allies. Come spend an afternoon with Michigan’s own
folklorist and storyteller Genot “Winter Elk” Picor for Ann Arbor’s own Winter
Dweller celebration. Feel free to hoot, holler, laugh and join in the festivities.
